Mazda is now showing off its upcoming facelift for the brand's top model, the CX-5 family SUV. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 gets a significantly updated design, both interior and exterior as well as two distinct special models. Mazda is also broadening the range and number of combinations of drivelines and equipment levels, introducing new equipment as well as improved driving characteristics and safety systems. The first cars are expected to arrive in January 2022.

Mazda's concept "Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture" has now been introduced for the 2022 Mazda CX-5, where it focuses even more on the interaction between the body, wheel suspension, shock absorption, and the seats to sharpen driving pleasure and riding comfort further. An additional consequence of this work is improved sound insulation against road-noise, especially on rough asphalt and gravel roads.

Another novelty for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is the "Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive)", which allows the driver to choose between several different driving modes that adapt the car to different conditions. Models with a petrol engine and four-wheel drive get, among other things, the opportunity to choose a terrain mode that provides improved passability on bad roads and/or slippery surfaces.

The most noticeable change for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is the update of the exterior design. In the front, the car gets an updated and more three-dimensional structure in the grille and a new signature wing, which means the chrome strip that runs between the headlights and under the grille and which has recently become one of the brand's characteristics. New bumpers both front and rear as well as new headlights and taillights with updated LED signatures. The model also gets a completely new exterior color called Zircon Sand.

The range for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 SUV is expanded with two completely new models. The CX-5 Newground is an off-road-inspired model created with an active lifestyle in mind. It comes with decorative, silver-colored protective panels on the front and rear bumpers and matching silver decor on the door moldings. Black lacquered exterior mirrors, a lime green accent in the grille and 19 ”alloy wheels in silver/black contribute to a tough look. The interior is also exclusive to Newground with an upholstery combination of suede and artificial leather with elements of lime green seams and lime green accents in the fresh air inlets.

Homura is the name of the second special model created for customers who want a sportier look. The exterior stands out with details such as black 19-inch alloy wheels, black lacquered exterior mirrors and a black signature wing in the grille instead of chrome. In addition, the lower part of the bumpers, wheel arches, and side skirts are painted in a shiny, black finish that enhances the sporty look. Inside, Homura is equipped with black upholstery in imitation leather/suede with red seams on the seats, steering wheel, gear lever, and door panels as well as a black ceiling.

Signature is the name of the top model in the CX-5 program and has been designed to give a more exclusive impression. For the first time, the lower part of the bumpers and wheelhouse edges are painted in the car's color from the factory - something that will enhance the Kodo design's elegant shapes. Another novelty is that the sunroof is now also available as an option for Signature. As before, the interior includes a number of exclusive elements such as decorative panels in genuine Japanese wood veneer, more extensive interior lighting, and an exclusive upholstery in brown Nappa leather.

In connection with the launch of the 2022 CX-5, Mazda is introducing a slightly wider range of models and a new equipment package in addition to the new special models. The well-equipped entry-level model is called Sky and can be upgraded with a new equipment package called Teck pack, which includes a head-up display and an electric boot lid. The next level is called Cosmo, which can be chosen with three different interior options - textile, black leather, and off-white leather. The highest level of equipment is Signature, which includes all available factory-fitted equipment except sunroofs, which are now available as an option. "The CX-5 has never been in better shape, and now we are opening up a greater opportunity for our customers to find a variant that suits individual preferences and needs," says Johan Lagerström, PR and Product Manager at Mazda Motor Sweden. The engine program remains unchanged from today's range. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 family SUV is available with a 2.0 Skyactiv G petrol engine of 165 hp (FWD and AWD), 2.5 Skyactiv G petrol engine of 194 hp (AWD) and 2.2-liter Skyactiv D diesel engine of 150 or 184 hp (FWD and AWD).

Other news for the updated Mazda CX-5 includes an induction charger for mobile phones integrated into the center console. The cargo area has been upgraded with a new floor that provides a completely smooth cargo area when the rear seat is folded down. The CX-5 Newground also has a reversible luggage compartment floor with a tender back that can withstand wet and dirty objects.

The range of safety systems has also been expanded with the introduction of Mazda's queue assistant Cruise & Traffic Support (CTS). The system assists the driver by controlling acceleration, speed, deceleration, and steering when driving in a queue (speeds up to 60 km / h). In addition, the headlamp with adaptive dimming has been refined and is now divided into twenty individually dimmable sections in each headlight instead of the previous twelve. @via Mazda.
