Amethyst stone is believed to posses a number of mystical powers. People of ancient Greece believed that Amethyst helps them being sober and concentrate on their work while the stone removes the toxic substances from their bodies. There is a Greek word “amethustos” which means “sober” which is why this stone was called Amethyst. Some historians believed that Greek and Roman soldiers used to drink alcohol from containers made of Amethyst stone.
